Sex in front of your dog?
Dogs are lovely creatures and one of their purposes is to bond with humans. Having sex in front of your dog could be a subjective question. Since all dogs, out there have different personalities and behaviors.
Instead of asking “Is it ok to have sex in front of your dog” the question can go the other way around. Your canine could think “Is it ok for humans to watch dogs having sex in front of them?
What could your dog think about that?
It could be a similar feeling as when you are taking a dog for a walk and waiting for him/her to make a poop. Dog will check if someone is looking but in general, they don’t care that much.
But, what if a dog overreacts and starts to act protective around his/her owner? Then it can be an issue to deal with. It depends on how well they know the other partner, and also on other factors like the maturity of the dog.
It is possible for some dogs that they don’t care at all. Some of them are not programmed that way.
What if your dog wants your attention in that moment?
On the other hand, dogs can experience a lack of attention during your ”activity”. Speaking that way, what if they start to feel jealous? They may perceive it as a form of aggression or dominance, which can lead to anxiety or fear.
Dogs may become confused or distressed by the sexual activity and may not understand what is happening. And if you don’t understand something it is hard to have an opinion.
We have to question their cognitive ability to find a solution. Dog trainers state that our furry friends understand human gestures, emotions, and facial expressions.
Moreover, dogs also have a keen sense of smell, which allows them to detect pheromones and other chemical signals.
You have to know your dog
Controversial topic or not, you have to know your dog and the other way around. The fact is that their everyday occupation is much less complex compared to humans. Most of the time dogs just want to eat, sleep, play, and reproduce.
When it comes to human intimacy, dogs may perceive it differently than humans. While humans may view sexual activity as a private and intimate act, dogs may see it as a social behavior.
Dogs have been known to engage in sexual behavior in public, and they may not understand the concept of privacy like humans do.
If you notice a strange behavior of your dog after your and your partner’s sexual activity, it is inappropriate. Next time try to be in a separate room if possible.
In the end...
Some will say it is a bonding experience for the couple and their pet. They argue that dogs are naturally curious creatures and enjoy being a part of their owners’ lives, including their sexual activities.
While others experienced exactly the opposite. For example, their dog refuses to let the other partner step into the bedroom.
The reality is that dogs can be trained for many things and this one as well.
Don’t let a dog be on your bed, then teach a dog how to be in another room during the activity. Of course, if you don’t want to see your dog around at the intimate moment with your partner.
Maybe you are ok to see your dog around during the sex activity, and your dog doesn’t mind.
It depends from dog to dog. Some of them could have hilarious reactions, some nothing at all.
Get to know your doggo, spend time together, train a lot and there won’t be any issues in terms of bad behaviors.
